Connecting communities through gardening

“People are looking for ways to be connected. It’s community gardening, and I think the community part of it is just as important as the gardening part.”

With £6,000 from Fund for Wales over three years, Community Clubhouse and Gardens in Mold has created a safe, welcoming space for people of all ages and abilities to connect through gardening, creativity and wellbeing activities. 

Many local people, including those with disabilities, mental health challenges, or additional learning needs, were looking for meaningful ways to connect with others, build confidence and feel part of something. 

Monthly gardening clubs, guided by a head gardener, brought people together through a love of nature. Alongside this, weekly art, cookery, yoga, and mindfulness sessions helped build friendships, reduce isolation and encourage learning and shared decision-making. 

The garden has become a calm and creative hub where people feel they belong. From learning about trees to deepening mindfulness practices, participants are gaining new skills and finding new ways to connect.
